Based in Glasgow, Scottish band Beecake who are..... Billy Boyd, John Crawford, Billy Johnston and Rick Martin have all been long-term friends and played individually and together in various bands over the past several years. Beecake was formed in late September 2006 over a bottle of malt whisky in a Glasgow bar when the guys remembered how much they loved making music together. After selling out their first gig as Beecake at Barfly, Glasgow in January 2007 and having fans travel to see them from as far a field as Japan, Germany, Italy, and the USA, they decided it was a good time to record the music they were making. In total five tracks were recorded which would later be released as their EP “Just B”. Since that time they have played many successful shows all over the UK, Europe and to the USA. Through these shows Beecake have gathered a very dedicated live audience and in the fall of 2008 Beecake won the Tartan Clef Best Live Band, at the Nordoff Robbins Music Awards. Beecake have hit the number one spot on the myspace unsigned charts within the UK several times and continue to regularly hold a position within the top 10 unsigned bands in the UK, in various genres, they also continue to hold a respectable position within the myspace worldwide-unsigned charts. Beecake have to date played live with such artists as The Fratelli's, Sharleen Spiteri, Sandi Thom, The Attic Lights, Big Country, BMX Bandits, Amy MacDonald and Eddie Reader. In the summer of 2008, Beecake entered the studio again to start work on their debut album. Now with the album "Soul Swimming" complete, Beecake were very excited to be going back out on the road, trying out the new songs written for the album, and enjoyed the thrill of taking the sound they found for their debut studio album out to be experienced on the live stage last October 2009 during their East Coast tour of the States.Dates included Arlington,Boston,Phily and two sold out shows in New York City. What will 2010 hold in store for Beecake...

Billy Boyd - vocals, guitar Billy Johnston - guitar, piano, vocals Rick Martin - Bass, vocals John Crawford - Drums, vocals I have been lucky enough to have heard a copy of "Soul Swimming" the Band's debut album and I can honestly say that I have loved it from the very first listen, The band have obviously poured heart and soul in to this record and there is not a bad song on the album. It opens with "Ball of Earth" a mixture of (almost) melancholy and upbeat with a hint of The Beatles in there somewhere, there is a nice mix of Guitar and piano with the addition of string arrangements and Choir singers on a few tracks such as "Something's Wrong" and the brilliant "This is not exit".... Another stand out song for me is the track "Broken Song" with a great Chorus and unexpected change of direction at the very end which typifies the way this album was written, performed and produced. The song "Boy" will almost certainly bring a tear to your eye not made any easier if you have kids. The album also has some faster and louder tracks like "Rip it up", "Lost direction" and "Radio" adding a good balance to the record. Put simply.... "Soul Swimming" is a Cracking album!
